DR. B. BOROOAH CANCER INSTITUTE is a proud visionary establishment in North East India whose baton I have carried with great delight and inspiration. A reflection of the journey so far is filled with many ebbs and flows. In fact, we have come many a miles from where it all began to the present status of being a Grant-in- Aid Institute of Dept. of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India and a unit of Tata Memorial Center, Mumbai.
Our milestones should not be a reason for repose, but in fact it should inspire us to out-perform our own boundaries. The willingness to perform is as important as the ability to perform. When we serve only to meet expectations, then there is no joy associated with it. Only when we put our mind, energy and heart to a dedicated purpose, we will be able to create a difference in this august service towards humanity and its greater well-being.
In fact, from being the premiere Cancer Care Center in North-East we are en-route to become one among the Magnus cynosures for Advanced Cancer Care in the country. This is becoming a reality only because the BBCI family has supported each other to bring the best in each of us. The service we offer is our identity in a Nation of 1.37 billion and there is no room for mediocrity.
There is a growing need to generate human resource in the field of Oncology in our country. Towards that end, Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute has started various Post Graduate, Super Specialty and Fellowship courses for doctors. The Institute also runs various paramedical courses including M.Sc in Radiological Physics and M.Sc. in Cancer Biology. Presently, 18 research projects including clinical trials are ongoing at BBCI.
The Institute has acquired state-of-the-art medical equipment and machineries to provide evidence based treatment by a group of dedicated highly skilled manpower.
The approach to treatment at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute is holistic. Various recreational programmes and welfare schemes have made significant impact on the delivery and quality of cancer care.
We need to give generous effort to educate our society about early cancer detection as well as champion against harmful cancer causing habits. When we share our knowledge and educate the future generations, it will catalyse the nurturing of young leaders which is required for a better tomorrow. I urge my friends and colleagues to constantly pursue excellence and rise above all adversities.
We should focus on the care and comfort of each patient and keep it as the greatest
priority. We should strive for a never ending quest for knowledge in order to keep up with the pace of today's medical science.
I am drawing inspiration from the challenges we have faced and I look forward to the journey ahead with enthusiasm. We will continue to work relentlessly as a family and forge towards our goal to make Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute a Center of Excellence.
